Showing
There are several different levels of horse shows in our area. Each level builds on the one before it in degree of difficulty and competition.
The Piedmont Hunter Jumper Association (PHJA) provides several one- and two-day horse shows all across the piedmont of North and South Carolina. These are considered local shows and provide an excellent showing foundation. They have show classes from beginner to advanced, and have a year-end banquet honoring the top six riders in each division based on points earned throughout the show season. You have to be a member of the Association for points to count. There is at least one horse show per month, so there are many opportunities to attend different shows.
A step up from PHJA shows are Level “C” shows. Their competition and point tally is on a state level. The highest level of competition, “A” shows, are held throughout our region every weekend. The competition and point tally are on a national and state level.
I encourage all of our students to compete in horse shows, especially those given by PHJA. It is a great test of how well you are learning the skills at each level compared to others on the same level. Showing is also great for confidence building, and helps tremendously with individual achievement and independence in school and work-related activities, or any situation where you are center stage.
